It’s as simple as it sounds. Summer came up out of nowhere and it’s time to kick back.
Happy to announce a fresh new summer look! (@Canva, thx love)
As we return to normal we find more opportunities to spend time outdoors with friends and families. The US vaccination rate continues to climb and the comfortability of being able to freely socialize continues to increase.
Many of the researchers and scientists throughout the world were crucial in continuing progress on their respective projects and goals.
It is extremely relieving to finally get the time for an extended vacation.
R&R wouldn’t be complete without some good books.
What I’m Reading
“How to Avoid a Climate Disaster” by Bill Gates
“Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer
The Scoop
The book by Gates popped up in my Twitter feed, and I was able to get my hands on it (thanks fellow reader!). The purpose of the book is to highlight the world’s greenhouse gas emissions and discuss what needs to be done to achieve a Net Zero world. Gates discusses the dilemma that we are in through a practical lens. The inevitable population growth and more people growing into the middle class will result in increased consumption. More consumption will most likely lead to increased energy demand.
Materials such as cement and steel are important for building and developing a global infrastructure. Unfortunately, traditional manufacturing processes generate lots of carbon byproducts. Alternative options carry a “green premium” (more expensive), and would require government action to incentivize producing these “greener” materials.
What can the world do to continue to grow while also minimizing production of carbon emissions? Gates provides an action plan for the world to reach the arduous goal of reaching peak emissions in the middle of the century.
Second, Into the Wild is a real eye opener so far, and I can’t believe I didn’t read this in my childhood. In progress..
Whether we took calls from a closet or bathroom, or answered emails outside of typical work hours I think we can all look back on the past year as a truly life changing experience. Technology is generally good for improving workflow and making it easier to connect with people. When we’re cooped up inside we all see how addicting technology and applications can be.
Never forget to take a deep breath to relax and explore.
SOC of charge is at about 50% with plenty of vacation to go! Thank you readers and subscribers. We will dive back into batteries in July!
